A personal MOT from TENA Men

Posted by

Recent research from TENA Men has found that one in five men had their last general check-up
was more than two years ago and 18 per cent confessed that their worst health habit is not visiting
the doctor when they have a serious health issue, but now, it’s time to man up! Honestly, I don’t think I have EVER had a checkup. Isn’t it strange how we are invited to the dentist every six months for a check up but never the doctor, why is that?

As part of my goals for this year, I need to take better care of myself.

Whatever the reason, we need to try to look after ourselves better and thanks to TENA Men, they have sent me some vital equipment to help me on my way and when you have a personal MOT, you can use the same methods as that friendly mechanic at your local garage.

Lights: Visibility is essential when driving, and it’s the same with everyday life. I recently ‘upgraded’ my visibility when I started using contacts and with that comes regular checkups.

Steering & Suspension: As a car gets older we all notice those little creaks more and more. The same  happens to our own body. That’s why it’s important to look after your joints and muscles. It’s sometimes hard to get some excercise into our daily routine and I’ve heard resistance bands can be a great way to do that.

Fuel System: Checking for leaks is important to make sure your car’s fuel system is in working order.  Urine leakage is often seen as one of the taboo subjects men are reluctant to think about or discuss, however it’s a common health experience that affects 1 in 4 men over the age of 40 (according to an SCA Study). This isn’t something I have to deal with myself, but like many things men suffer with, they suffer in silence. If you do experience this then the TENA Men Absorbent Protector can help mop-up all those drips and dribbles to ensure you can go from 0-100 without any hiccups along the way. If you had a leaky exhaust you’d get it checked out right?

Bodywork: I worked with a guy who used to ride a bike to work and every day he would moisturise. I used to think it odd, but I find as I get older I can feel myself needing to moisturise more and more. I also find myself needing to shave more and surely I am far too young to need to trim my nose and ear hair, right?

Emissions: Although it’s important to take care of the parts we can see. It’s also just as important to make sure everything is running smoothly behind the scenes. It’s vital to have a healthy immune system to make sure you can go through the day at peak performance! Swapping my regular coffee for a cup of green tea, which is filled with antioxidants and nutrients can help boost my immune system.

Tyres: Your tyres are checked for a number of things at an MOT, tyre pressure being one of them. with devices such as the Fitbit charge 2, its great to see how fit or in my case UNfit you really are. With a resting heart rate of 58, I’m not too bad when compared to an athlete which would have a resting heart rate between 40-60 beats per minute.

When TENA Men asked me to feature their MOT campaign I initially declined as I don’t really relate to the problems that their products assist with, but when I re-read the details I realised that I can relate with the message that men need to try to take care of themselves a bit better and if and when they have problems with their health, they shouldn’t be afraid to seek help and assistance.

As always, thanks for reading and if you have any health concerns, physical or mental, PLEASE go speak to someone.
