One mistake EVERYBODY makes when they try to lose weight is they expect too much.
They see success stories of people who have lost weight, they see the before and after pictures and wonder why that hasn’t happened to them.
This is a mistake I know I have made in the past.
In my previous post I talked bout why I hoped this time my weight loss journey would be different and one of the reasons was I wasn’t so much as going on a diet, I was changing my lifestyle. I was trying to eat better, do more excercise and be healthier.
Dieting is a temporary solution. If you go ON a diet you can come OFF a diet. I don’t want to be ON a diet because I know I would come OFF it. I want to change my life both with food and health which hopefully will enrich my life with the confidence to do things I currently won’t do because I am so fat…but that’s another post.
When we came back from our last holiday I set myself a target. Between 28th June and 28th August I would lose 1stone (14lbs). That worked out at just under 2lbs a week…totally doable.
As part of that mistake of expecting too much is the expectation that because your eating healthier and doing excercise the weight will disappear and you’ll lose a lot more that 2lbs a week…..you won’t. You may lose 3 or 4 lbs this week, but you wont do that every week.
One reason for this is that your body will get used to your new way of eating and adjust accordingly, so 2lbs a week is actually pretty good!
Well this past week I hit my first target. I lost my first stone. admittedly it’s like taking a pee in the ocean, you can’t tell a difference, but I can’t lose the rest without losing the first.
I know that it’s still not going to be plain sailing from here and by this time next year I will have to avoid grates so I don’t fall through them but as long as I stay focused, stick to eating healthy and working hard I know that this time next year I WILL be healthier and I WILL weigh less than I do now.
If I continue to lose 2lb a week, I would have lost 36lbs (yes that means there is only 18 weeks till Christmas folks!), thats a massive weight loss! That’s 2.5 stone. That’s around about how my son weighs! BUT, my next target is smaller than that. My next target is just another stone. 1 Stone at a time and if I just keep chiseling away. maybe I’ll be the one that’s chiseled.
So why am I boring you with yet another weight loss post? Well firstly it’s my blog so *Sticks tongue out and blows a raspberry* and secondly because if your reading this, there is a good chance that you’re wanting to change too. If you are, then there is a good chance you may well make the same mistake we all have and that’s expecting to everything happen fast. It won’t, but if you REALLY want to make change then you will and little by little, the change you want to make WILL happen.
