My Hero

There goes my hero
Watch him as he goes
There goes my hero
He’s ordinary

Heroes come in many forms. Most of them are people you look up to but in my case I look down at my hero…after all he’s only 3.

Those lyrics I quoted above are from the Song ‘My Hero’ by the Foo Fighters. It’s not the greatest Foo song but it easily sums up how I feel about my son right now.

As you would be aware if you’ve read any of my recent posts, BB has spent more than a few nights in hospital. Since the first needle he’s been amazing. Understandably upset (I know grown ups who won’t go near needles) but he’s taking everything in his stride. It’s easy to forget he is Ordinary. Just an Ordinary 3 year old.

These are rough numbers so far during his stay at hotel NHS;
13 – The number of nights he stayed.
4 – The number of different Cannulas. (The little valves normally seen on the back of people’s hands)
6 – The number of blood tests.
3 – The number if times he’s been placed under general anaesthetic.
4 – Number of surgical procedures. (3 knee washes and a semi-permanent cannula called a ‘Pick Line).
Too many to count – The number of times he has made me feel extremely proud.

Every time the nurse comes to do his observations he happily holds out his finger for the monitor or lifts his arm for the thermometer.

To hear the nurses tell me how lovely he is (Maybe they feel they should) makes me feel like he is growing into a beautiful young man.

I love you BB. My Son. My Hero.

As always, thanks for reading.

  1. Kids have an amazing way of just going with it don’t they. We could all learn a thing or two from them. Well done BB for being such a brave little man and hopefully he won’t be going back to Hotel NHS any time soon.

  2. What an amazing little guy! My daughter has had few trips to hospital in the last year for various tests. She has consistently humbled me me with how brave she can be, even in a situation that makes her look even smaller than normal. Your son sounds like a proper hero, I got his hospital visits are coming to an end.

    1. Thanks for the comment!
Yes his visits are coming to an end. He has improved alot and after a checkup next week we hope they are no more!
I hope your the tests on your little lady are not too stresfful for either of you!
