I had this crazy thing in my head that finishing work wasn’t ideal and it would make things tight financially but I would become a SAHD (Stay at home dad) until I found a new place of employment.
It would be great. BB would go to Nursery every morning, I would spend some 1-on-1 time with LB. We would collect BB from nursery, have some lunch and fill our afternoons with trips to tha park, playing in the garden, maybe a couple of trips to our favourite playgym. unfortunately it hasn’t worked out that way at all.
2 days after finishing work BB was diagnosed with Chicken Pox. This limits you greatly.
You can’t go shopping. You can visit people. You cant with a clear conscious visit a local park with the possibility of inflicted ‘The Pox’ on some poor unsuspecting child. So it’s meant staying in the house a lot. Even the weather has worked against us meaning the garden was out-of-bounds.
If that wasn’t enough on Monday night BB woke us complaining of a pain in his foot. Some comforting and a dose of Calpol later he settled back into a slumber. After the odd complaint on Tuesday and a repeat awakening (This time pain in his knee) we decided the take him to the doctors. The doctor advised that it’s possible the virus of ‘The Pox’ can cause infections in joints meaning fluid build up in his knee. He spoke to a pediatrician and they thought it would be best to take a look so a trip to the hospital for daddy and BB!
After blood tests, x-rays and a look over by an orthopaedic doctor (Just like a Doc McSuffins check up!), a decision was made to keep him in overnight to monitor his temperature.
Some infections can turn nasty and if that was the case it needs treating ASAP. A spiking temperature is a sure sign this is the case. Luckily his temperature remained steady but as any parent who as experienced it, any time in hospital with a child is a crappy one.
Asleep by 10pm, being prodded and poked during the night. A fire alarm going off at 3am all lead to a crappy night for BB and a very crappy night for dad.
Add to this a dose of Oral Thrush meaning he couldn’t eat anything without discomfort has meant a rough week for the little man.
It seems the Chicken Pox is on its way out, the oral thrush has gone away and although he is walking with a limp right now I don’t think is knee is hurting as much.
Hopefully he can return to nursery and hopefully we can return to some normality. Well our new normality where daddy stays at home and mummy goes to work.
Hopefully we can start having fun and I can start enjoying being a SAHD,
Wow…I just looked up from my keyboard and realised that is one loooong post so if your still reading thank you…..and you really should get out more!
