I’m probably a bit late to the party with this post but I’ve been in two minds whether to post it at all.
Then something happened that made me want to do this post and that something was good.
In case you’ve been living under a rock or the ‘craze’ hasn’t hit your country then this is the basic jist of the thing.
Over the past two days women have been posting ‘selfies’ of themselves with no makeup on. The idea is, they have broken down a barrier of self-confidence all to help spread the message of cancer awareness. I know at least 2 people who refuse to leave the house without makeup on, so to them it’s more than just taking a photo.
As you know if you follow my blog, my family has been affected by cancer and I have raised money in the past so what’s annoying me is that people have been complaining about it! Complaining that simply taking a picture of yourself is doing nothing.
What these people fail to realise is that the fact you’re discussing it in the first place is exactly the point of it.
Now it’s grown. It’s grown from simply raising awareness to actually raising money.
An article in recently stated that cancer charities have seen a massive surge of sponsorship.
“Carolan Davidge, director of communications at Cancer Research UK said, “The #nomakeupselfie Twitter trend isn’t something Cancer Research UK started – but it’s great to see so many people getting involved to help raise awareness of cancer amongst their friends and family.”
A colleague of mine then posted this on Facebook
So for all those that are complaining about people doing something “pointless”, I think it’s more of case of your missing the point.
This HAS got people talking and that IS the point and is IS making a difference.
If like some, you don’t know how to donate, simply text BEAT to 70099. This will automatically donate £3 which I think gets paid in your next phone bill.
As always Thanks for reading and Thanks to Fabio for making a difference by ranting to his 1000+ friends on Facebook and donating like he said he would!
